Wi-Fi won't turn on

Help! My Wi-Fi won't turn on, it keeps saying that it's being turned on. I am unable to turn it off or on fully. I have restarted my phone countless times but to no avail. Please help!!

Have tried pulling the battery, leave it out for 30 seconds or so and then restart the phone, not sure why but sometimes this will clear everything out of the memory and clear up some problems (also not sure whey but I've been told to hold down the power button while the battery is out to "help" things out).

GOOD LUCK! This sounds like a complex one.

Hi,

Having same issue after upgrading to 4.4.2. Powering off the phone does not resolve the issue, I have pulled the battery, as well as per the previous post, pressed the power button while the battery was removed. Same issue. Wifi says it is turning on, but will not turn on. Anyone run into a solution?

Dune.

KitKat Ota? I've noticed my Wi-Fi is slowly going out on this phone too running stock. It drops and reconnects no matter what Wi-Fi router I'm connected to.

i have the same issuse with wfi, try to unplug micro sd card, turn off phone, then turn on and when phone boot, put the sd card back, before restart or power off the phone you must turn off wfi first, good luck:D

I'm getting the same thing to. So far I've found that with enough recurring I will eventually get the Wi-Fi to work.

As my phone goes nuts and kills is battery every day or so, this method out getting a lot of practice! (all of I sudden I notice battery drains fas, the phone gets warm and I notice that the phone is never sleeping... And the chief user of all power is Android System).... I don't think that that my next phone is going to be HTC!

So far the only thing that unsticks the wifi once it has stuck, is to remove the battery, the SD card (& the sim card, how that would matter, I don't know), leave it out for a few minutes, then put it back to reboot.

So far as permanent solutions: As I've run through the entire internet, this isn't just an HTC problem..it's more of a 4.4 problem. (No really, the entire internet.) Had the problem before root, after root, with stock ROM, with custom ROM (InsertCoin, works nice, in development over on XDA).

I've recently done two things at the same time, not sure which one is the fix, but if one doesn't work, try the other one.
1. Change "WiFi Direct" name
Once you've gotten the WiFi to turn on normally through mechanical means noted above, under settings, in WiFi, with WiFi actually ON, select "Wifi Direct" from the upper right hand corner menu (3 dot), select "Rename Device" from that upper right hand corner menu (3 dot), change the name to something short and simple ("taco" is what I use). Once you've done that, try rebooting normally and see if your wifi is under control.
2. Backup and reflash the rom from custom recovery
Can only do this once you've rooted the phone and flashed a custom recovery, I use TWRP. I made a backup, did a factory wipe, then restored from the backup I just made.

I'll update this when I have more confidence that one of these or both of these fix the problem.

UPDATE:
NOPE. Only thing that seems to clear the problem for a period of time is to reboot into recovery, flush the caches and reboot. Which isn't much better than pulling the battery.

UPDATE2: Even that doesn't work all the time. Odd whenever I do anything with TWRP (making a nandroid backup, restoring a nandroid backup, etc.) it seems to knock it loose. I don't get it.

For those of you having unpredictable wifi performance,, please try this: go into settings, mobile data, automatic connections, and turn off connections optimizer. Try that for a couple of days and report back.

The only way I found for this issue (cause I have on every reboot)
is to remove the sd card, restart the phone and plug it again.
You can also go to settings - storage - unmount the sd card
and then to perform reboot.
For me it works !

This is a crazy one from what I'm reading, best of luck to all!
I've had the battery drain off and on but this would really push it off the cliff for me! LOL! Knock on wood!

I had been without my wifi for a couple of days. I had tried removing the battery with no luck. This worked for me, I just unmounted the sd card and rebooted and I got the wifi back. Thanks
