Help Widgets won't refresh/update

Just got this phone last week, love it so far except for this one problem.

Periodically it will stop refreshing/updating widgets. For instance I have a Beautiful Widgets clock widget on the home screen, and from time to time it will get stuck and not update the time, anywhere from minutes to hours at a time. The notification bar clock shows the right time but the widget doesn't. This also occurs with a SwitchPro widget (pressing buttons to change brightness, mute phone, etc. work but the indicator light on the buttons don't turn on/off), calendar widgets (won't update events or themes), etc. A reboot "fixes" it, but then it just happens again a while later. This happens on both the stock launcher and Nova Prime.

I looked at some of the "similar threads" suggestions before posting this, and none of them had any helpful info. Remove widgets and re-add isn't an option since this happens periodically and I don't want to keep on doing that, especially for widgets that require a lot of configuration.

Any ideas?

I experienced similar problem: weather, Jorte calendar, stock ticker, music player... All widgets wouldn't refresh, though some widgets when tapped on it, the data is up to date. Some widgets seems froze - did not respond when tapped.

Tried removing cache partition, rebooting, reinstalling, nothing worked.

Then I recalled the one thing I did before this happened - I changed the wallpaper. So I changed it again. Everything went back to normal right after.
