Wifi adapter hooked into cell phone

Newbie
Hey, i havent been on this fourm in awhile and I thought Id come on here to talk about an idea i have. Iv been looking for a way to have a better wifi signal on my phone, not just at home but also for public wifi spots. Then i thought of those usb Wifi adapters you can hook into your computer. Is it possible to use your cell phones usb charging cord and plug a wifi adapter into it and increase your cell phones wifi capabilities. I have a new samsung galaxy note , so i was hoping that this phone would be able to do the job. This phone is like a mini computer so i am considering trying it but just wondering if anyone else has had success with this or has any opinions.

Short answer, No.
What you're wanting to do is not going to work because android won't have the drivers necessary to install the adapter.
HOWEVER -
There ARE adapters that can connect to the wifi antenna.
The antenna's that you're looking for will use a connection called QMA.
This is pretty much a "Quick Mount Antenna" that snaps on to the connector instead of using threads like typical Antennae.
As to where you'd find one, or what it would cost that all depends on where you are, and where you shop, as well as what type of antenna you're getting be it omni-directional, directional, hi-gain, etc.

GL, and glad I could help.
Oh, one last thing, no I'm not sure which connector on your phone is the QMA for your wifi, you'd have to test that yourself, and NO connecting an antenna to your QMA connector for mobile band reception will NOT damage it provided it's not a powered antenna. - If it's powered, then I can't really answer that.

iv been looking for QMA adapters for my phone and everytime i find an adapter there for improving the signal strength for your data connection not your WIFI.

does anyone know if an external antenna can be plugged into a cell phone to improve the wifi range? Other people on other forums have said that behind the cell phones case there are these spots for antenna hooks up so i looked at my phone and found a couple little ports. See in my picture here there are 2 small ports that say R1 and R2 , is one of these for a wifi adapter?

I have a 3400 sq foot ranch style house, and my BIONIC can easily see my Netgear router 3/4 of the way to the other end of the house. You should see what you WiFi broadcast range is on your router first and foremost, b/c that will be your limiting factor more so than your phone's receptivity. Consider where the router is located after determining the broadcast range to provide more even coverage throughout your domicile. Also, make sure the route is as far away from large current draw appliances as possible - less interference.

Okay, but im looking for improving my WIFI signal outside of my house too for public wifi, i said this in my very first post.. I dont have the best router at home and I may end up getting an external antenna for it , but for now im focusing on improving my cell phone!

I'm not sure where you're trying to use your phone at but every place I've ever used public WiFi I've gotten better than 3 bars of connectivity. It's either spot on or too faint to bother trying. And the faint ones I just leave alone.
