WIFI auto ON and OFF

Hi All,

I am looking for WIFI auto NO and OFF app. Whenever I enter my office WIFI should automatically turn ON and when I leave it should turn OFF..AUTOMATICALLY. Is this possible without consuming much battery?

Thanks

Leaving Wifi on isn't a real big drain, but Battery apps that monitor when to turn it on/off do drain (IMO). I tried Y5 and noticed it took more battery than me manually turning it on and off (it has to sit there and monitor 24/7 to know when you enter and leave an IP). If you know what time you want it on or off, Power Scheduler works with less battery because it knows when to do its thing.

Y5 leaves wifi off while the phone is locked. I've noticed no battery drain from it.
Me too.

I don't think you actually mean that it leaves wifi off while the phone is locked.

What I've seen is that it won't turn wifi on or off while the phone is asleep.

In other words, I could have been home for 15 minutes, but until I turn the screen on, Y5 doesn't turn on wifi.

Y5 does wait until the phone is unlocked to turn on wifi, of course. It also turns wifi off when it's relocked and on again when unlocked again. However, after locking, it waits a few minutes, 5 or so, before disconnecting wifi. That's so it doesn't have to reconnect every time you lock/unlock it. Kinda lets you have a few minutes to be sure you're finished. Nice!

Very simple yet effective and well thought-out little app. Just as it should be.

Odd. I had been turning "airplane" on at 6PM and off at 9AM manually. I tried Y5 using "location" switch (airplane on at home), and my battery drained 30% that night (when it typically drains 1%). So I uninstalled, but I did not give it much of a try. I assumed it was sitting there searching where I was to know when to turn itself on. I don't "lock" my phone (I use "No Lock"). So if phone is just sleeping, is Y5 doing anything?

So if I don't turn on my screen until noon, how does Y5 know I left my "location" at 9AM? I'm thinking it was pinging towers all night long waiting for my phone to move... the reason for battery drain.

No, that's definitely not what I'm seeing. My wifi remains on when my phone is locked/sleeping.

That may not be a Y5 setting. If you go into system wifi settings and advanced and change wifi sleep policy to never, wifi will stay on even when the phone is locked/sleeping.

Ya know, you're right, I'd forgotten. I DO have wifi set to turn off when the screen is off.

I still really like Y5....
