WiFi Before using phone service

Is there an app that you can have on that will search for a usable wifi connection to use before using the phone data service?

Sure, just turn the wifi on, and it'll always look for hook-ups before invoking 3g. Note that wifi is more of an energy draw, but that's how it works.

If you want more signal detail, try 'wifi analyzer'. Shows signal strengths on a graph or list plus other info.

'Tricorder' will show wifi as well. I'm sure there's lots of others too.

Thxs for the input so far... How bout an app that will turn the wifi on when trying to get online and then if no wifi will turn it off so not using up the battery..
