WiFi connection issues at work with Tablet

Hello,

I have been trying for a while to get my tablet to connect to my school's (work) WiFi connection.

They have a SmoothWall system, to which you have to login when you open a browser (currently Chrome). This appears to work fine.

But nothing happens after I log in (it says Log In Successful).
I open a new tab in Chrome and try and browse, but the connection times out.
In its place, I receive multiple messages telling me that "Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped working"

My tablet is an ASUS Transformer Infinity TF701t running a recently updated Android 4.4.2 (which has, incidentally made the USB port redundant to NTFS)

This is really very annoying.

Curiously, I can connect fine with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 mini on Android 4.1.2 . So currently my workaround is to tether my tablet to my phone.. which kills my data allowance!

Any advice would be excellent.

Already tried:
Clearing google caches
Checking for disabled apps using airplane mode (none disabled)

Many thanks,
Tom.
