Help WiFi Connects but no Internet

Gluon2

Newbie
Hey guys

My HTC One X won't let me use the Internet at all when I'm connected to a WiFi network.
If it helps:

  • I recently updated it to '2.17.771.3' Software Number (after which it worked fine for two days before internet stopped working
  • I removed and inserted the SIM card because I wasn't able to make or receive voice calls before this happened (it fixed the call issue),
  • I haven't rooted it or flashed any custom ROMs or anything.
I've tried:

  • Soft restarting it
  • Using static IP
Please help!

Oh no guys
I just factory reset my phone and the wifi still does not work!
Please tell me what's going on and what I can do!

Has it just stopped working out of the blue? Has anything changed?

Can other devices on the network access stuff fine? Can you try changing the channel on your router?

Yes, one minute it was working and I was using Whatsapp.. and the next, it wouldn't connect to the internet. No, I didn't change anything before it stopped working.

Yeah, two iPhones and two iPod touches and several laptops can access it fine.

I haven't tried changing that, I'm not sure what that is..

Is that changing it from B to G or something?

You can try that, but take a look at something called WiFi Analyzer.

Your router is capable of using different channels, some get congested making it difficult for certain devices to connect, Android devices are quite susceptible to this. Use the app to work out which channel is best and change your router so it's using that one.

What router do you own? Changing the channel is normally somewhere in the advance WLan settings of your routers control panel.

There's also the possibility it's a hardware issue and you'd need to call your carrier. Can it connect to other wireless networks with no issues?

Oh yes,

I just got back from a friend's house, and the wifi there was working splendidly.

Something funny happened when I got home though; the wifi worked for a few minutes.. then I went outside and lost the wifi connection and now that I'm back it's not working.

I'll try downloading the apk and putting it into my phone and install it and see.

Once I do, do I just change the number of the Channel to the number Wifi Analyzer says is best? Do I do anything to the B/G/N setting?

Thanks a lot for your attempts to help :)

Okay.. I changed the channel to '11' which almost had a full-star-rating,

It said that Channel 14 was the best, but my router only has til 11, and 11 was like half-a-star away from being full (14 was full)

It's still not working..

Wifi works now..

I'm now using a static IP, not to my Wifi Router, but to my WiMax Modem.. My router's IP is 192.168.1.1, and it's connected to my WiMax Modem, which is accessed on 192.168.3.1

I actually checked the details of my iPod Touch's connection, and was surprised to see it's IP (dynamic) was something like 192.168.3.20 so tried that, and it works now.

Thanks for the help!
