Help Wifi Direct/Android Beam

I picked up an N7 this weekend and wanted to send pics from my Verizon Galaxy S3 to my N7 through wifi direct but I kept getting a failed to send message. I tried doing it through NFC as well with no success.

I've have tried it at work with a co-worker's Sprint S3 and my wife's Verizon S3 so I know how it works. I can get the devices to see each other and actually connect but the file transfers fails. I can also get the devices to recognize each other with NFC but again no file transfer.

Anyone have success with this?

I think that's a SGS3 feature. N7 has NFC but only SGS automatically creates a Wifi Direct link for larger files.

S beam is Samsung's version is android beam but I tried sending files through WiFi direct which is a standard protocol. Both devices see each other and connect but the transfer fails.

I had the same result I was thinking maybe it's because the N7 is on Jellybean and the S3 is still on ICS? I wonder does it work between two N7's or a Galaxy Nexus.

I figured android beam is android beam regardless of OS version. Even Wifi direct shouldn't be affected as it is just a wireless protocol.

If someone has 2 N7's, i'd just like to know that it actually works.

I've pushed pictures to my N7 using android beam, no problem.

Have you messed with bluetooth settings on either device ? are both devices discoverable ?

Make sure you don't use S-Beam on the SG3, I'm not sure that would work to the N7 as that technology is a Samsung only thing.

I turned on NFC and wifi direct. If i remember correctly I believe the phone says I need to turn on SBeam to use NFC or Android Beam. Even if I don't use that and only use wifi direct, still no success.

I'll try BT tonight and see how that works.

I did my homework and found that vanilla android does not have a spot for Wi-fi direct on the share button. That's the main reason why you can't sent between a vanilla to a non-vanilla android device. I guess that's what some people call 'fragmentation on android'. But, that matters little. You can rely on an app like Wi-Fi Shoot which is linked to the Wi-Fi direct API through which you can send the file. I have not tried it myself yet. But, hope to. I was going to try it on my friend's S3 but, the issue was that he didn't have an internet connection also, The nexus 7 prevents you from receiving APK files and certain file managers prevent you from sending APK files.
