Wifi Disconnecting

I just purchased a lg G6; the phone keeps disconnecting on wifi every 30s approx.

It's very frustrating and annoying. I had a s5 and no issues of those, all our other devices don't have that issue at home. (s7, iphone 7, a surface, ipad)
I connected it at mcdonalds and It didn't have that issue.

So now I don't know if it's the phone or my wifi at home? (But everything else works flawlessly)

Which router is it? I have had a similar issue and the problem was the way I powered my router. It would reset (although the LED would show its fine) if the current is too low or too high...

also I was doing the software update and noticed the wifi disconnects when the screen is off.
Even though under the setting I had chose keep wifi connected when screen off

If it's only that phone then this may help:
- Click on the SSID and click forget network. Then enter the password again.

Also try clearing system cache. It fixes most weird problems:
- Power Off your phone
- Press volume up and power button together (sometimes it's volume down, sometimes press both buttons at the same time).
- Your phone will boot into recovery mode.
- You should see an option called WIPE SYSTEM CACHE or something similar.
- Scroll to the option using volume keys
- Hit the power button
- Your system cache should be cleared
- Scroll and select REBOOT SYSTEM NOW to get out of recovery mode.

Note that the system cache is different from app cache.
Also make sure that you DO NOT hit ERASE DATA or something similar as that would lead to loss of all your data.

So you said that WiFi disconnects when the screen is off. Are you using any battery saving mode or app?

Nope no other app or anything, I'm attempting to download a software update and been sitting at 2%, I opened the phone for a minute and moved to 6%, just opened it again and still at 6%

The phone is brand new got it yesterday, struggled to even get my gmail account and contacts sync'd over

This sounds like an issue with your wifi. Does your isp "throttle" your connection after you use so much data. For example, I have satellite internet with dish, and if I use so much data in a certain time period or if there are too many devices connected my connection is slowed tremendously. So, try disconnecting devices you are not using at the time and see if that helps.

Since you have multiple instances of others having no problems with your WiFi network and your G6 can connect to other WiFi networks without a problem, there apparently is just some issue between your G6 and your home WiFi network, specifically the WiFi entry on your phone for your home WiFi network. Since forgetting and re-adding didn't solve the problem, if your router settings allow you to set up a guest network as a test set one up using just its default settings using a completely different SSID and password. If your phone gets better connectivity on that guest network (fingers crossed it does), than at that point you can either a) peruse through all the setting options in that guest network and compare them to the options in your primary WiFi network or b) do a clean reset of your router settings and just set up a completely new network (different SSID and password). The first is a bit involved and the second requires you to then re-do the WiFi settings on all your other devices but it does bypass whatever configuration conflict that was knocking your G6 offline.

Forgot to add, if you have anything like Avast or McAfee or whatever on your G6, try disabling all its features, reboot your phone, and see if that clears up your problem. Those AV/anti-malware utilities are becoming increasingly more intrusive, and create just a many connectivity problems as the claim to prevent.

I had the same issue and was struggling with it for weeks. The fix was easy in the end. Settings>General>Backup & Reset> Network settings reset> "Reset Settings"
That'll take a second or two. Restart your phone and reenter your wifi info. That worked perfectly for me.
Also, just in case you're worried, you don't lose anything other than saved wifi and bluetooth connections. My carrier information reconnected automatically.
