First thing to do is to go into settings>networks>wifi and try and turn it on. If it won't turn on or stay on, reboot your phone and try again. Let us know if that works, because if it doesn't then you might indeed have a hardware problem.
If it is Android 7.0 or earlier then a Wipe Cache Partition is always a good second step. It can become contaminated over time and cause all manner of problems.
