WiFi Hot Spot not detected

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy J2. I don't have internet at home so I must use my Kindle Fire & laptop through the phone's WiFi to get online. I followed instructions in manual but neither device detects the WiFi signal. Nor is the WiFi name or password found in the phone or in the paperwork like it was with my last phone. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi.

Do you have a Hotspot symbol in the Notification shade?

You should have a Hotspot Password line in Hotspot and Tethering under Network and Internet. Tap that line of dots to see or change the password and hotspot name.

These Settings descriptions will vary upon make and country. Samsung use different terminology iirc.

If you have done this with another phone then you will have a tethering data allowance on your plan?

If you changed phones are you still using the same carrier as before? If you changed carriers, is hotspotting included in your base account or is it an extra charge?

Turn off your VPN and then try it

"tethering data allowance on your plan?"

That's not something I've ever had to deal with. But I know that some US and EU carrier networks can be restrictive, and may charge extra for hotspot tethering data allowance.

Thanks! I found the hotspot name & password. There was no indication of a sub-menu. I had to re-tap the tethering option even though it was already "on".

Are you all set? sorry I forgot to get back.

I'm still not clear.

If you can post screenshots they're always helpful.
