Help Wifi IP address problem

Capp00

Lurker
My wife and I have had the exact same Galaxy S3 phone since November. They are the same OS number, build number, etc. Exact same.
Android Version: 4.1.2
Model Number: SCH-1535
Baseband Version: I535VRBMB1
Kernel: 3.0.31-861013
Same on both phones

As of this morning, my phone is having issues connecting to my home wifi network, which has not changed in years, while hers works just fine. It connects just fine, but has no internet access. All other devices in house connect just fine too, so it has to be something on this phone.

Mine is obtaining an IP Address that is outside the scope of my DHCP setup. When I log into the router, it shows my device listed, but shows "Static IP".
DHCP Scope: 192.168.0.50-70 (20 addresses, not all taken)
Hers: 192.168.0.59
Mine: 192.168.0.104

I have checked, re-checked, deleted and re-connected to my network a dozen times, and it still gets the same IP address. And I even went through and configured it with a static IP within the scope range to see if it would work, but it has not.

I've rebooted the router, 3 times. Restarted my phone 3 times. All the while, her's keeps connecting just fine.

I'm quite network savvy and have spent hours looking up solutions, but I haven't found any similar problems anywhere, only the general "Can't connect" threads. But mine connects just fine.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on why it would be working just fine last night, as of this morning it is not.

Thank you

That's an odd one. With not knowing which WiFi router you have, can you go in and assign a static IP to your phone by using it's MAC address?

Indeed it is.
I was able to manually configure a static IP on my phone and get it to connect. Connects to my work wi-fi as per normal with no problems.

Just cannot seem to get to grab an IP address within my DHCP scope.

Are you certain you don't have a static mapping for your phone in the DHCP table of your router? If you do, delete it, let the phone get an IP and recreate the mapping.

It's also possible you phone's mac might be block if your router is configured to restrict based on mac addresses...Just thinking as I'm typing here...

Yup, 100% sure it's not setup that way on the router.
Also, I have mac filter enabled and the phone's mac address is in the allowed table.

As I said, nothing was changed on the router or my phone. I just woke up Sunday morning and it was getting an IP address, from my router, but outside the range I set up. Can't figure out why.

I have only been able to get it to connect by assigning a static IP/Dns/Gateway and then it works fine of course. As soon as I switch to DHCP, it grabs some oddball address outside the scope.

I'll look over the thread you posted when I'm at home and can mess with it.

Thank you :)
