Help wifi issues (not smart switch)

Hey all just recently scooped up a Samsung GS5 and love it so far however I have one issue...wifi keeps switching itself on and off like crazy...I've already done a bit of googling to try to resolve the issue but I can't seem to get to the bottom of it...I'll provide as much detail as I can...so whether I'm connected to a network or not it switches itself no matter where work or home, and it doesn't have to be connected to do it either...smart switch is off, network optimization is off power saving is off any simple wifi solution I've seen, it's off...I can't access the hidden diag menu either...it's a Verizon GS5 I've bought third party used from a cell store...phone is in great shape and there are no signs of neglect. I've tried a partition wipe AND a factory wipe and alas no solution...I've heard the VZ gs5 cannot be rooted on lollipop and I'd have to downgrade to kit kat to root and also heard a lot of these wifi issues all revolve around the release of lollipop...any suggestions or resolutions much appreciated

I'll move this to the S5 area, see what owners of the device think.

It sounds like you've tried pretty much everything I'd normally suggest though.

Have you tried giving it a static IP? A long shot, but I have seen it help a lot of other WiFi problems in the past.

I agree it sounds like you've done everything possible to try and resolve the problem. There may be a hardware issue with the wifi radio and if so you won't be able to fix that.
If it's recently purchased I'd take it back to the store, there has to be some warranty on it through them even if it's used.

It's weird it seems to stay active after a bit but the moment it starts scanning it switches on and off repeatedly, I've heard people going into the hidden menu and disabling always scan and that working but I can't access it due to verizon and their dumb policies

If your Verizon model, G900V, is on either of the latest Lollipop firmwares, OE1 or OG5, you will not be able to downgrade or root your phone, ever. See, here.

I would suggest that do a full Wipe+Factory Data Reset of the phone, as per #2.3 and #2.4 of S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide after first backing up everything as per #2.1 of the guide.

Then you can download the latest stock firmware for the Verizon model, if you are already on OE1 or OG5...

Model SM-G900V
Model name GALAXY S5
Country USA (Verizon)
Version Android 5.0
Changelist 4782027
Build date Fri, 31 Jul 2015 02:40:54 +0000
Product code VZW
PDA G900VVRU2BOG5
CSC G900VVZW2BOG5

You can then flash this to your phone using Odin and by following the instructions and video in the links of #1.11 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide.

Take the time to check out the phone prior to reloading your apps and settings. If you experience the Wi-Fi problem at this stage, it will probably be a hardware issue.
