Help WIFI not working

I just rooted my phone and installed various ROMS but wifi doesn't seem to work on any of them? I am currently on cyanogenmod. p.s i'm a new to rooting.

Is the problem that you cant connect to wifi or that you are connected but it doesn't get you online?

the problem is that i cant connect to wifi. it doesn't show up the available networks that i know are there and then the wifi turns itself off.
