Help Wifi Problems

Having purchased my new Moto G5 I went to set it up. I got to the stage of connecting to a Wifi network and found that I could not find/see my router. I'm aware this is more likely a problem with the router but am sure this wont be a problem for the majority on this site.

Any advice on the situation would be greatly appreciated,

It would help if you stated more details about your home network setup, especially your router.
-- Is it an ISP-supplied modem/router or you have your own separate router?
-- Also, have you tried setting up other WiFi networks on your G5 (at work, public WiFi like at a library, etc.), and have you had a problem there also, or is it just your home WiFi?
-- If you have other mobile devices at home do any of them have problems connecting to your WiFi network?
Of course the most basic thing to try is restart your router (or modem/router) but if you've already done that, please state what you have tried already to save on repetition.
