If I'm signed into someone's residential wifi, my device won't send pictures/video/data to their devices automatically as I take them, right? (like their desktop, ipad, etc)

I was under the impression that a bunch of setup steps were needed to authorize that, on both ends. Is that correct?

Send them to other devices as you take them, no.

A few years ago there were some phones released with an option to make media stored on the browsable by other devices on the same WiFi network, and which came with this enabled by default. By now I would hope that all manufacturers would know better, but it might be worth checking your settings to be sure (there's no option like that on my phone). A simple test is whether other devices on your own WiFi network can see your phone's content: if not then it's not likely that they will on someone else's network.

It will not. You're safe as far as the WiFi network owner and your stuff.

But if you're using that WiFi without permission, a simple network check and they're gonna know it.

Great, that's what I thought.

And yes, it's totally with permission as I was at a friend's residence. I recall my parents being really excited that their Iphone could post directly to their "camera roll", but I recall that being with all sorts of authorizations.

I did none of that, other than sign into their wifi.

thanks!
