Help wifi reception

I recently bought a Tracfone ZTE Valet and the wifi reception is very poor. I cannot maintain a connection unless I am almost right next to the wifi router. When I had the back cover of the phone off I noticed that their is a circular hole in the plastic to the right of the battery and it looks like the place where a wifi antenna would plug in but nothing is attached. Am I right that is what it is and is their an antenna that should be plugged in their?

Mine looks the same.

I just bought mine this past Sunday and started off using the wifi to test things, set up my Verizon email, and contacts. The wifi connection works all over my house and outside. I even walked around the neighborhood and I was picking up lots of wifi signals. The wifi worked great at Publix across the street and I was able to check and send email.

So yesterday I transferred the account from my old Tracfone to the new ZTE Valet on the Tracfone website. Everything went smoothly and I was up and running on the ZTE in about an hour. The phone calls are good and no problems to report. I downloaded the Tracfone App to track my account balance, and I even downloaded the Verizon app so I can watch tv on the ZTE when using free wifi.

The Wi-Fi reception on mine is a tad sketchy as well, even with me being w/in 5' of the router, at both home and work.

I'm just chalking it up to it being slow 3G. I do hope that they eventually offer 4G. I asked that ? at the Tracfone "No-Help" Forum and they gave me their standard response: "Sorry you're having a problem. Check your forum inbox for a private message. We need to take this issue offline." It's not a problem Tracfone_Abughandonji, it's a simple Yes or No question.

3G only applies to the wireless provider equipment, not the wifi. I keep my data turned off unless I want to use it while I'm away from a wifi connection.

I am finding the Wi-Fi reception is very dependent on the signal strength of the source: my 'stronger' signal at home works great. When recently traveling, it was poor at the person's house and at several outside 'hot-spots', ok at others while my 10" and 7" tabs were ok at all places I tried.

Thank you for all of your responses. I'm going to exchange my phone for a new one since I only bought it last week and If I still have spotty reception with the new one I'll just make do.

i got the Valet three days ago. My antenna doesn't work either. Gonna take it back. i can't risk cut off phone calls.

I am baffled by the intertwining of this discussion thread...WiFi reception, 3G Wireless speed and phone calls being cut-off are all different issues.

While they are all dependent on an antenna, there are more obvious problems that can affect each of these issues that are not related to an antenna.

While SOME people have complained about WiFi connectivity, others (like myself) have had NO problems.

Most 3G wireless issues are more variable based on your proximity to a cell tower that has higher speed capacity available. My 3G speed sucks...but I know I have good coverage, just not good speed.

And I know of no one who has reported any issues with phone calls dropping due to equipment failures or weakness. DO NOT be mislead by the "number of bars"...I have been parked next to a Verizon cell tower and my phone still shows 2 bars of strength.

I agree. I haven't had any problem with reception. Even though the wifi icon isn't totally full it functions fine. The same with phone & data. I've had no dropped calls and great reception, even out in the country.

I agree; the only issue I've had has been the poor WiFi connectivity. It's fine at home but there are places it won't connect. But the phone and data are okay.

So far my WiFi has been ok, around 30ft in home and all the bars at a hotspot. Only had it less than week, so don't know about other places.
I get very few bars, but 3 other people on Verizon with non tracfone phones don't show any better. Phone works fine and the other folk have no problem so I just ignore. I'll know when I go to the local hospital, my first phone worked there, my second didn't so we'll see what this one does.
