Help Wifi - Router Issue

Hi, since this morning my Nexus 5 has been unable to connect to my wifi. Has been working perfectly fine up until now.

The problem seems isolated to the N5 as my other Android devices can still connect. My router appears in the list of wifi signals detected by device and shows up as Saved, secured with WEP with full signal bars. When I tap on my router it shows signal strength as excellent and I have the 3 options to Cancel, Forget and Connect. When I press connect nothing happens.

I have tried pressing Forget and re-entering my routers password serveral times with no luck. I have also hit the reset button on my router as well.

I have been able to connect the N5 to another wifi router, so the issue seems to just between my N5 and wifi router.

Any slots left in the DHCP server in the router?

Are you able to hard reset the router?
 
Whilst out and about the other day I found that I had somehow connected to an unsecured wi-fi - I didn't do it! Actually, I only discovered it when I got home and found I wasn't getting a wi-fi signal (from my home router). I pressed 'forget' on the unsecured wi-fi and 'connect' on my home wi-fi and all was well.

I was just wondering whether your phone had connected to some other unsecured wi-fi as mine did, and that had some unwanted effect.

I'm not sure if there are any real disadvantages to the phone automatically picking up an unsecured wi-fi.

I tend not to leave wifi on when out and don't use unsecured signals, instead relying on my data allowance.

1. No - No Error Message

2. Haven't look into DHCP settings in router. Could you explain the significance of slots in server as this is a bit beyond my level of knowledge.

3. I have already used a pin to press the reset on the router a couple of times. Is there any other way to reset.

Just to say my router is the one supplied by ISP - 02 wireless box ll.

All sorted now. Went into router UI and performed a reset from there then re-entered WEP encreption key on Nexus 5. Thanks to all who responded.

Now that you have things working (and I'll understand if you want to just leave things alone now), consider upping your wifi security level. WEP is almost useless and is easily hacked. Just sayin' ;)

Consider going to WPA2 (make sure that all your WiFi devices are compatible with WPA2 - most are). Everything should be similar for the setup - just use a long passphrase (make it a sentence with at least 3-4 words and leave out the spaces - over 14 characters is usually recommended)

WEP is just too easy for anyone to break into. WPA2 (either PSK or AES) is significantly better. AES is a little more secure, but PSK is fine too.
 
Yes. Will need new router to get better security, have been wanting to upgrade to wireless N for a while now anyway. Just haven't been able to decide on what to get.
 
I had the same problem but was able to connect OK using the WPS method of initial authentication.
I turn my Wifi OFF when out.
