I know there is already a thread about getting around Metro blocking
wifi tether, but I found a way to do it WITHOUT changing any browser
settings and it works just fine with Windows/Internet Explorer.
I have no way of testing with xbox or any of those, but should work.
Procedure:
Go into QPST.
See this thread on updating PRL for basic instructions if you do not know how to do this. (steps 1-12)
Link: http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...st-update-instructions-regularly-updated.html

Go to the M.IP tab and highlight Profile 0.
Click EDIT.
Copy the info in the NAI line and paste it into the Tethered NAI line.
(or just change @modem.mymetropcs.com to @aaai.mymetropcs.com)
Click OK
Click Write To Phone to write it back to your phone.
Phone will reboot.

Once done, you can use the Wifi Tether App (pre12) without issues.

this works, yes, but is still kind of slow and bogged down compared to the other method of changing the user-agent...at least in my experience. Chrome is slower than using an agent...IE is slow...and mozilla is just acting weird on my computer anyways so i cannot be unbiased with Firefox
