Help WiFi Tethering on 2.1

Is there a way to get WiFi tethering working on Spica running 2.1 update 1?

I am having a rooted ECLAIR.XXJCF.

Thanks much.

PdaNet app supports USB/Bluetooth tethering (and it works fine in Mac also), but it requires paid version to use https sites !!

I am also looking for a solution which is free (possibly without rooting) :)

are you trying to use the device as a router for using the 3g connection of the network?

I am trying to make my Spica as a Wireless Wifi Router to the iPad while on the go.

As far as I can see NONE of the 2.1 firmware is capable of doing that. There are two ways to do this:-

1) using the WiFi-Tether-App at code.google.com
But this requires a special kernel which supports NETFilter. None of the 2.1 custom firmware has support for this. So this method will not work.

2) Using the Barnacle app from the Market
It just requires a Root. But unfortunately even after rooting the spica on 2.1, the UID of Root does not become Zero. This causes "Permission denied" issues while running Barnacle. So this option also gone.

I am just wondering if anyone has released either:-

1) an 2.1 kernel with support for NETFilters
2) any rooting mechanism for 2.1 firmware where the UID of root user remains the standard number '0' instead of an some other number.

Please suggest.

@vinodis

If you have root access to the terminal, can't you use "usermod" to modify root account details which is UID for root? Just a thought!

usermod(8): modify user account - Linux man page

I was wondering about the possibility of vice-versa as well!
Is there anyway I can use my Desktop Broadband on my spica through usb (to access market and so)? Any !dea?

cant you just buy a usb wifi adaptor which allows you to share your internet through wifi? or cant you just buy a router? kinda reminds me of this comic.

Even on the rooted JD1 release, Barnacle and android-wifi-tether fails to work. android-wifi-tether states "WPA-Supplicant Fails".

Wifi tethering works successfully in JD1 with the root given in this post - Spica v.LK2.01 - Root, Recovery, Apps2SD, Busybox, Wifi tether etc [04/14/2010] [EN]

I am able to successfully connect using the built-in application "Wireless Tether for Root Users".
Things to check:
* Check if you have enabled the 3G/EDGE/GPRS data connectivity (I am using an app called Quick Settings, to enable/disable that)
* Turn off wireless (may not be needed, not sure)
* Click on "Press to start tethering" and when it asks for root access, select "Always"

The above steps worked for me :)
