Wifi turns on (unexpectedly) in airplane mode

Hi,
When I put the LG V30 in airplane mode Wifi is turned off, as expected. However, quite often when I check my phone a few hours later, airplane mode is still enabled, but Wifi is turned on, as if it was enabled.
That happens quite a lot, but not always.
Any ideas ?

Either an app that's capable of turning WiFi on or accidental unlock in the pocket followed by the quick settings icon being rubbed. Those are the first 2 things that occur to me.

No accidental unlock, it happens when the phone is put a side, mostly for the night. As for an app turning it on, I looked at App Permissions and couldn't find such a permission, so how can an app do something that there is no permission for ?

There is a permission where apps can control the WiFi and turn it on if required.

e.g. this is an app on my Huawei Mate 10 called "WiFi Master Key", and that can turn the WiFi on if it's off. LG V30 could be different, I don't know this device.

I expect that the "modify system settings" permission would also allow this.

No such permission ("modify system settings"), went through my apps permissions one by one, couldn't find any evidence to anything that may do that.
