can I connect my sony xpera z to my laptop via wifi and thay are both connected to my wifi

Hi, welcome to Android Forums.

Although I've never attempted to do it, I believe it may be possible, using appropriate software, to achieve this with Windows 7 or 8.

Is there any particular reason why you want to connect your Sony Xperia to your laptop? - why not connect directly to your wifi?

I would suggest that you consider registering as a member then you can benefit from a full dialogue on this and any other issues.

Hi

I think that you need an app such as eshare on your phone which will set your phone as an ftp server. You can then use your pc browser or program such as fillezilla to connect to your phone.
