Help Will a new Nexus 5 bought online autoupdate to Lollipop?

My Nexus 4 is starting to show trouble signs after 2-1/4 years & I'm thinking of buying a Nexus 5 32Gb online before they disappear altogether. My husband had this phone at the time the Android 5/Lollipop updates rolled out early in the year--we both got the updates to Android 5. Will I still be able to get the system update to Android 5, now, buying this phone now? It's boxed with Kitkat.

THANKS very much.

Sure, as long as you can still get one. They seem to be disappearing very quickly. I'd recommend updating it immediately to 5.1 and then performing a factory reset to clean things up. going from 4.x to 5.x is a big change in a lot of ways and especially with the N5, having bits of Kitkat still hanging around is causing some problems.

FWIW, the N5 should be supported through the next version of Android, if past devices are any indicator.

Even if it doesnt auto update, you can manually update it yourself.

Google provides factory images for just this purpose.

I second that suggestion - seen a lot of folks having issues that were cleared up with a factory reset. Backup all critical data, and factory reset.

I just bought a new red Nexus 5. It had 'Jan 2015' on the box and came with 5.01. I just flashed it to 5.1
