Will AT&T unlock my Captivate if called?

Do anyone know if AT&T would unlock the Captivate if one calls their customer support?

If the contract on the phone is satisfied, they should, although I've heard of instances where a CR says they "can't". Usually when the case is escalated, they do and it was a case of customer service not knowing how.

As if often the case, it depends on who's on the other end of the line. If you find that the CSR won't assist, call back. It is luck of the draw.

I've had my devices unlocked after 90 days. You may wish to tell them that you'll be traveling overseas and will be purchasing SIM cards in other countries. Otherwise, they may think you'll be deserting the ship for T-Mobile.

FYI, there is an app in the market called galaxy_s unlock that will unlock your phone for free...worked perfect for me.

My experience: I called AT&T and they wouldn't unlock my phone (they will do it after a year or so after you have your phone I think). I found an app that unlocked it, but I needed Root for it.
