Will SD storage help with app installation space? (Moto 4G)

Okay, I love my 8GB Moto G but space is already at a premium, with only a small amount of music and no videos, making me wish I'd gone for the 16GB.

But lo! Here comes the Moto 4G with an expansion slot for up to 32GB!
Perfect! But wait...it seems it will only be available with 8GB of internal memory. Hmmm...

So my question is...

Will this make THAT much difference to me? Most of my space is consumed by apps rather than a huge amount of photos and videos. My (limited) understanding (and this is the crux of my question) is that most apps install to the internal memory rather than an SD card. And, even those that CAN install to SD still need to leave a certain amount of data(?) on the internal memory.

Ergo, were I to transfer the contents of my current phone to this new model (say with a 32GB card in place); apart from the photos/videos, would I still have the same space issues? Or would the majority of apps happily live in SD Land?

I'm basing most of this from when my Orange San Francisco (which had a TINY internal memory but a card slot) wouldn't let me move a lot of apps to SD. Things may have moved on since then.
I know widgets and certain system programs (and probably FB) have to live on the internal but not sure about the above.

I really hate getting the "you only have X amount of space" coming up every time there's an update or I put a new app on. Would this new model sort that out or would I be better plumping for the 16GB (of internal space) model while it's still available?

(And what do you reckon the chances are of them bringing out a 16GB with and expansion slot before too long? That would solve everything!).

Thanks,
Mark

The Moto G LTE model will help a little. Like the Moto E, it allows you to move apps to the SD card. However, it's the old Google way, so it has some limitations. First, apps have to specifically support this, and most don't (especially since this feature has been officially axed by Google). Second, it doesn't move the entire app, only the part(s) listed by the developer. Sometimes this is a huge chunk, and other times it's a small chunk.

MicroSD cards post KitKat are best used for static media. If app storage is your ONLY concern, the 16GB Moto G would probably better serve you than the 8GB + MicroSD Moto G LTE. It would account for those apps that cannot be moved.

Thanks, that is exactly what I've being trying to find out!

The 16GB model would probably be more than enough for me. My only quandry now is, having tried a friend's 4G recently, I am rather impressed by it!

I still have 500mb of free space atm, so it's nothing urgent.
I think I will hold out a little longer and see if a 16GB 4G model emerges (surely they will go for that?!) and, if not, hope they keep the 16GB model on the market a while longer!

I really should have bought that in the first place looking back...:)
