Will Verizon help if I get a new phone?

OnRunning

Newbie
So I just took my Moto Droid into Verizon (because its slow and not very responsive) and basically the rep told me that they know it is slow because they should have never put FroYo on it. So I doubt i can get a new one.

Here is my question:

If I buy a new phone (i'm thinking a Droid X) from a friend or e-bay, will Verizon replace it and will my insurance transfer and cover it?

Verizon will activate it for you for no fee. But you can do it yourself by just dialing *228 and using option 1.

But verizon will not replace it under warrenty and even though it doesnt atomatically take off insurance (you would need to request the feature taken off), Assurion will not honor the insurance on a used phone.

So, No, your insurance and warrenty will not carry over to the "Customer Provided Equipment", But yes, you can use it with no problems or cost to get it activated and working.

My insurance carried over when i purchased a phone from a friend but maybe i just got lucky

I would take these experiences as exception and not the rule.

Its clearly stated in the TOS from Asurion (the third party insurance provider Verizon uses) that they only cover newly purchased phones that had an insurance feature added within 30 days from the original purchase date. So if your friend purchased this phone less than 30 days ago from an actual Verizon retailer, than you are elligible for insurance.

Eligibility 4b. If your request for enrollment of coverage is submitted more than 30 days after intitial activation of Verizon Wireless Service for the Covered Property, you are not eligible for this insurance and your enrollment will be rejected; in such instance, no coverage is ever in effect.

Verizon's TOS states that warranty does not transfer from one person to another. This even effects people changing the numbers from one name to another. It used to be covered if they could track the original purchase (so AOL's were ok) but this changed in the last 6 months.

To the OP... your phone should not be slow because of the software update! I've got an original droid running 2.2 that's as spry as the day I got it. There can be instances where a software update on ANY kind of device can kind of mess things up, but usually a factory data reset will resolve those issues.

Also, if you purchased your droid new from vzw, unless you got it the moment it came out, you're under warranty and can get it replaced. If you did get it the moment it came out, you're only out of warranty by a day, and I'd like to think if you call technical support and they can't resolve your issue, they'd make an exception and replace the phone anyway.

Also agreeing here with those that say phones purchased from anywhere other than VZW or an authorized agent will NOT be covered by VZW or Asurion, however, the manufacturer might still be willing to help directly with warranty issues.
