Will you get Nexus One on release day?

I know there are many of you who, like myself, have been waiting patiently for a Verizon N1, and it seems like that will finally become a reality on the 23rd.

My first reaction when hearing this was to wake up early that morning and order it, but maybe that isn't the best idea. The first N1 release wasn't exactly flawless. Some have even thrown out the idea of a "bad batch" of early N1's.

As I understand it, it's more than just a matter of swapping out a GSM radio with a CDMA version -there are some changes in architecture that must also happen. So in a sense it will be a new device.

Does anyone here (who is waiting for a V/N1) have any reservations about picking up the device immediately after release? Perhaps wait to see if they've fixed some known issues with the first one, dust under screen, for example?

I'm rather proud of myself for having held out on buying a Droid or jumping over to T-Mobile for the first N1, I would hate to reward myself for that patience by jumping into a phone, only to discover it has issues.
 
"For me", I'd wait to hear some reports on reception before I pulled the trigger. I got rid of my (2) Droids due to signal loss/weak signal (DC/Baltimore corridor). Based on VZ coverage map, this should not have been an issue.

As far as HTC, I looked at a a TP2, and in (2) different AT&T stores, just picking up the phone I noticed signal strength dropping to "half bars", where my Motorola Q, also on AT&T, is pegged on "full bars".
 
Initially, I wanted to get it as soon as it was available for Verizon, however, after some thought...I guess that it would be a good idea to wait and see if the phone has any miscomings.You never know...maybe I'll get it just a few days after its released =P
 
I had originally intended to get one as soon as it was released, but now I'm holding out for the Incredible.
 
I am not worried about the hardware on the phone as if it has a problem I will just return it. But I think they should have all the kinks worked out. For me it is going to narrow down to what plan the end offering. I am currently with Verizon but under no contract. We have a family plan with three dumb phones and will only want to add the new Nexus. Will they force me to have two seperate plans like t-mobile? I am hoping to only add $30 more a month for data beyound that I just am not sure I can justify it.

I'm on the fence about this. I've waited so long, I feel like I should just get it upon availability. But if it is Google-only sales/support, I might wait it out. Surely someone will get a preview or will review the thing right away. There should be some blog reviews within the first few days of availability and that should give us some insight on issues like the off-center capacitive buttons or signal degradation.

All this talk about Google not selling the Nexus One anywhere but online... You do realize that Apple sells their iphone through third party retailers and carriers? I really don't think Google can maintain profitability of its little project unless they open up their sales channels. Support...that's a different story, but they'd still be better off contracting support, even if it's through the carriers. I realize this is the internet age, but nobody survives without some sort of brick and mortar infrastructure that displays/supports their products, even if individuals just use it as a means to make a purchase online.
 
Depends on whether or not the Incredible is out or if there is a set release date for it. I don't like not getting to handle a phone ahead of time and if the service is still with Google then no...I will wait.
 
I've been waiting since October for this mythical phone on Verizon. I just don't know what I will do until the 23rd. I'll make a decision then. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I've been using a pre-paid phone from WalMart for 6 months (broke my iPhone contract 6 months ago) - - this will be rags to riches story for me.
 
^Plus 1. Last Oct for my line. Wife's Line(main line NE2 full discount) since Jan 14. I've lulled myself into a 'new cellphone(smartphone) w/Andoid' catatonic state. Have been tempted a few times to 'just get the Droid'. End of the month N1, maybe May Incred. IDK. This forum has been kind of a drug to get through these 'tough times'.
 
N-one.. yeah, that is what I'll have on release day- None. My Droid does everything I need and more, why 'upgrade'?
 
will the N1 come to verizon with the new sense or with stock android as with tmobile? that to me is a deciding factor as to whether I get it at all. I'm not eligible again untill July so I have some time to make my descision. I like my Eris alot, its just the reception on it is horrible where I live. Not sure the N1 would be any better as they are both HTC.

Me too. Reception is key, I'm not switching out of AT&T/iPhone for more of the same "quality" coverage. Is HTC a reputable company? I feel like there are more complaints about HTC android phones vs. Motorola, etc. Another thing is that I like to handle the phones myself and not having the ability to try it out sucks; it's a bad decision on Google's part.

Does anybody know how Verizon will handle the plans in terms of buying the phone outright vs. buying it at a subsidized cost? Or will that even be an option?
 
i've been with Verizon for years and I know my reception is great, my issue is with the quality of the phone.
As hard as it will be, I'll probably wait a few days to get an initial response before I buy. as long as there are no major issues, I'm all in.

N1 will have the stock android UI. The desire and incredible will have the Sense UI and similar specs to the N1, but you won't receive updates as quick as you would if you had the N1.

Exact same situation for me.

It comes down to a few factors for me..
I'm on a family plan and if they won't let me upgrade through my family plan - where i only pay an extra $30 for data; and that Google will be the sole company responsible for support/tech help; then I will pass on the Nexus one and go elsewhere.

The release date (or lack thereof) and the specs of the Incredible will also have a play in my decision, however, my previous paragraph will be the main determinant
 
I will get it as soon as it comes out.. My only regret will be not having Sense UI.. The stock Android is UGLY..
And switching the radio from GSM to CDMA is not that big of a deal.. Well, at least for Sprint(Hero(GSM to CDMA). My friend is an Engineer for Sprint and he said it was not an issue(HTC does it).
And I am sure they have been working on it even BEFORE the Tmobile release.
 
i was all for waiting for the N1, but a few weeks ago i dropped my BB in a puddle of water and had to act quickly. i was eligible for my New Every 2, but too far to cancel contract so I got a Droid. Love it! plus, I call shananigans on Google for a trackball. I had the curve and love not having to deal with a trackball or any kind of trackpad. not losing sleep over the fact that i cant have one now.

although as far as style goes, the N1 is far sexier than the Droid...just sayin
 
Go for the gold and just get it. You'll feel better and have a kick ass phone to boot. Trackball is actually useful. CDMA is a now transition technology anyway as LTE is upon us real soon. Precisely why I opted not to wait. The Nexus One is indeed worth the hype.

Well, we'll see what release day is- I hope the lawsuit will not affect the N1's release date. And how sucky would it be if Apple wins and Android 3.0 removes features.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if I should just hop on the N1 movement and damn the incredible and iphone.
