Wimax speed (New EVO 4G)

I just upgraded my wife from an Optimus V (IMHO: Excellent all around phone), to a EVO 4g. This was done last night, and I waited until this morning to start testing speeds, etc.

The speed is dismal, and I am hoping someone can help me with improving it. Using Okla's speedtest these are my results:

Optimus v (3g) D:1.66Mps U:0.72Mps and 152 ping
EVO (4g) D:0.96Mps U:0.82Mps and 99 ping.
EVO (3g) D:0.33Mps U:0.28Mps and 362 ping.

These test are being performed in my backyard: I live in Palm Beach Florida (flat terrain) well inside the "outdoor 4g coverage", and 400yds from "indoor 4g coverage". Both phones have full bars.

My friend's Galaxy's SIII on Metro gets D:10.66Mps U:6.72Mps and 162 ping, I had hopes to get something similar. I contacted Virgin this morning, and this issue is getting 'escalated'.

Is this related to the Radio interface Resource shortage?

Any help would be appreciated!

Metro PCS is LTE. Different from WiMax.

My on-street coverage is around 3 Mbps down and indoor is anywhere from 6-14.5 Mbps. You might just be in a on-street coverage zone, I wouldn't trust the coverage map, a lot of the time they're wrong.

Depends on the time of day also. If more people are using it then the slower it'll be. I'm surprised though that your friend was getting that high on metro which is known for its horrible speeds (even worse than sprint).

That does seem pretty slow. In Houston, before Sprint got LTE here, I was typically getting 5 Mbps down when outside, and at night could see speeds of 8 Mbps or higher. As others state, however, it can be very spotty coverage. In one area about 2 miles away I couldn't get any 4G coverage, but walking by the Sprint store 1000 feet away and I would.

Also, as others said, some areas can have heavy usage which can slow speeds down. This seems to happen a lot with Virgin.
