Win Phone app for desktop - Android equivalent

This is my second post here. Nice to be aboard.

Just migrated from Windows phone 8.1 to Android 7.0 (Nougat) and I already miss the Win Phone app for desktop. For those unfamiliar, the program installs on a laptop. After plugging in a windows phone into a USB port, the program loads and enables windows phones' files to be viewed.

I found Microsoft Phone Companion but this requires Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 Mobile and I run Win 7 Pro.

Thanks.

Never mind. I found this article and changed USB setting to “USB for file transfer.” Now, although no file transfer program like Win Phone app loads, the Moto G (5) Plus is detected and shows up in Explorer. Still have to choose "Use USB to Transfer files" option on phone every time, though. Wish it would simply default to that.
