Okay, I surrender. Tried it on Chrome, which I keep around for calamities like this, and it works there. So it’s all my ancient IE8 fault.
 
Web storage and DOM storage (document object model) are web application software methods and protocols used for storing data in a web browser. Web storage supports persistent data storage, similar to cookies but with a greatly enhanced capacity and no information stored in the HTTP request header. There are two main web storage types: local storage and session storage, behaving similarly to persistent cookies and session cookies respectively.
 
And a special thanks to the silent voice that corrected my calling the problem XP when I should’ve said IE, and especially to the silent nagging that I finally switch to Firefox/Thunderbird. I think I’ll appreciate it a lot, once I get over forty-seven years of Microsoft browsing. And yes, XP is still a problem, but not nearly as cumbersome as IE.
