windows xp sees phone as camera no micro SD access

ooch

Lurker
My S3 when plugged in via USB to my work computer ( xp SP3) will only detect phone as a camera drivers that show up

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbscan.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ptpusb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ptpusd.dll

The identical commuter next bench along (xp SP3) sees the phone as a portable device. Drivers are

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wpdusb.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wudfrd.sys

How do I get my P.c to reconize a device not a camera. I have tried all the usual. Uninstalling drivers etc. Is there a way of deleting incorrect drivers and then getting the right ones in. All the normal proceedures do not seem to work.

I really need to access my micro SD card at work.
Kies does not connect more than likely because of the camera issue.

Have you tried to choose update driver option in Device Manager and ask it to search
for drivers automatically? If it finds both PTP and MTP, choose MTP and that should work.

I used to do that iwth a Sony Walkman that had both modes available to switch between them.

it just restores camera drivers with no options. Sees it as digital still camera.I not sure how I can point it manually..i have had no joy trying that.

Andwhne you connect the phone to the PC, have you tried switching USB mode on the phone itself?

of course its in multi media mode via usb setting.. When plugged in to identical computer next to me It sees phone correctly as a portable device. My work pc keeps seeing the phone as a digital camera.

Have you tried downloading new drivers from Samsung's website? Remove any driver you currently have installed first.

when trying to put in the drivers from samsung website I get a messege about ejecting phone and rebooting ....even after uninstalling drivers and rebooting

Windows seems to associate the necessary software/drivers for MTP/PTP with Media Player. Can you update to the latest version of Media Player for XP, I believe it is Version 11.

When your device is connected the usb icon should show up in the notification area, click that it and has check boxes asking you if you want your phone connected as a camera make sure that box isn't selected.
