Wireless charging notification, Lock screen sound, Updating apps

Galaxy S5.......

Well, to a greater or lesser extent I've got my wife set up now so her S5 vibrates repeatedly until she figure out she's gotten a message or a phone call or a calendar event... Lite Flow Lite seems to work fairly well for that. It doesn't SOLVE the problem of the virtually non-existent vibration that she frequently can't feel, but eventually since it keeps vibrating she notices...

Couple new questions:

1. HOW do I get the S5 to NOT update apps I've turned off? OR, at least, ONLY update apps when it's connected to wi-fi? I've been a little surprised at how much data we're chewing up, and most of it SEEMS to be from the Google Play Store. I've turned off a bunch of stuff I don't use (google read, google play music, google play games, and so on. I still get notifications that it wants to update apps, or often that it HAS updated them. So, how do I get it to ONLY update when on wi-fi?

2. Wireless charging - works fine EXCEPT it wakes the phone up and pops up a thing in the middle of the screen that it's doing wireless charging. AND it wakes up the phone and plays a 4-note tone that I can't even FIND in the ringtone or notification list. WHERE is this tone coming from and how do I change it? I understand you can't get rid of it, but how do I change it?

THEN, after the FIRST time, it keeps popping up a thing in the middle of the screen and playing a DIFFERENT tone - this one I've at least found - it's "Bubbles"...... Where is it getting these? And how do I get it to STOP the sound and light show? It's REALLY annoying to have 5 - 10 minutes of this every time you put the phone on the charging platform...

Mine does the constant Cycling of charging on and off. Same thing. Not sure if the charger is trying to slowly change the battery in bursts or what.

First off welcome to the forums dkperez! :D

question 1:

a) update over WiFi only
1. go to play store
2. in the top left of the screen tap the 3 short lines
3. tap settings
4. tap auto-update apps
5. tick auto update over WiFi only

b) for what ever apps you do not want to auto update
1. go to play store
2. in the top left of the screen tap the 3 short lines
3. tap my apps
4. choose the app
5. tap the 3 dots in the top right
6. uncheck auto update

question 2:
i haven't got the wireless charging set up on my S5 yet however i did on my S3 and it did the same thing. from what I've read that's just what happens, i believe every one has that issue.

Thanks for the info... At least this way I won't be chewing up data with updates on things I don't even use...

I must have read 15 different topics in different places on the wireless charging - its a constant complaint about the repeated screen activations, popups, and notification sounds.... Apparently it hasn't been fixed in 4.4.

Seems like it should be possible to get a version of Android with settings to silence the noise and screen activations... Maybe in the next version.

Good grief, this wireless charging is a mess........

Set phone on charger - get loud 4-tone notification. That I can ignore.

BUT, after a couple seconds the charger LED starts flashing, my lock screen illuminates, the "Wireless Charging" popup comes on, and the TWO-TONE (low, high) tone plays.....

Then it goes off.

This repeats constantly. The whole time the phone is on the charger.

So, we have the light show of the blinking LED on the charger, the lock screen lighting up every 10-20 seconds, the popup displaying, and the two-tone noise...........

It ignores blocking mode. SOMETHING - I presume this charging stuff, turns ON sound even if I set the phone to silent, and the only way I've found to turn OFF the noise is to turn the Notification volume all the way down. That DOESN'T turn off the initial 4-tone noise, but it DOES turn off the 2-tone one.

UNFORTUNATELY, with all the screen turning on, lighting, noises, popups and other stupidity - it must USE more power than the charger provides. After 6 hours of CHARGING, the S5 is now down from 78% to 38%. In the time I've been watching it for the last half hour while reading topic after topic complaining about the problem, it's gone from 44% to 38% in that time.........

This is nuts - it would be impossible to use this in the bedroom where we're trying to sleep. And if what I'm seeing about the thing discharging is accurate, pointless.

I wonder what genius at Android or Samsung or wherever decided putting all this in the phone with NO WAY to turn it off in blocking mode thought this was a great idea?

I had that problem and traced it down to a weak receiver card in the phone, I bought a better Qi receiver card guaranteed to charge thru 8 mm of dead space..... my case is about 5 mm thick.

I have 3 Qi charger pads, one of them is lots better than the other two. Finding something of quality is a long shot in this business.

Old thread, but a constant topic...

The charging tone that irritates folks can be turned off by using a macro.

I use MacroDroid and have the Trigger sense "Charging"
then set the "Action" for Set Volume
then you have a choice of which volumes you want to adjust.
I turn off System volume for as long as it is charging.

then I create a 2nd macro that I called "Set Awake Volume"
the trigger for that is "Screen Unlock"
the "Action" is "Set Volume" and you select what volume levels you want the phone to have.

the beauty of this is, even if you accidentally press the Volume Down, unlocking the screen resets everything to "normal"... ie, your definition of normal.
