Help Wireless tethering issues from a Samsung GT-S7500 on Android 2.3.6

Hi,

For some reason, I can't get a Samsung Tab SM-P605 running Android 4.4.2 to connect to a tethering Samsung GT-S7500 running Android 2.3.6 smartphone. The Tab keeps dropping it. It will connect for a second, then drops it. And I have to enter the network key again - only for it to loop and drop it again after a second. However, on my Lenovo laptop, I can connect to the tethering smartphone OK.
I've tried renaming the SSID, changing the network key, but that didn't seem to work. Still can't connect the Tab. The Tab though can connect to the office WiFi LAN and another tethering Samsung smartphone GT-S6010 running Android 4.0.4 so I know the incompatibility is strictly restricted between the Tab and the smartphone GT-S7500. Any ideas?
I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you
