Won't even turn on!

AT&T Samsung Avail 2. This has happened 3 times now: it just randomly turned off, battery at 40% or slightly lower. Then when I hold the power button till it vibrates the screen will turn on (to a blank, black screen) then die. When plugged in it will show the charging screen for just a moment, then the black screen, then die. This has happened twice now and before i just left it charging and it worked eventually the next day but now i really need it for time sensitive communication. Now it will only try to turn on if i turn it on with it plugged in and the battery out, then put the battery in-but it still won't charge up. I have to think it's the battery but haven't had time to go by a store to see what they have to say. It hasn't worked for 2 days now, which I've either had it on charge or the battery out.

Sounds to me like a bad battery too.

If you have the time, when you get the new battery, go through 3 complete cycles of full charge with the phone off, use the p0hone normally until it shuts off, full charge, etc. I have batteries that I formed like that over 10 years ago, and I still get as much life out of them now as I did when they were new.
