Help Won't remember certain settings after restart.

Whenever I restart my phone, there are several apps (both downloaded and preinstalled) that don't seem to keep the settings i've set them with.

The biggest, most noticable of these is the camera. I set it so the shuuter has no sound and that the photos are saved on an external memory card. I turn the phone off and then back on and the camera has returned to the default settings.

All this has began after I updated my phone to the second upgrade of 2.2.1

Has anybody else suffered this and does anyone know a solution to solving it.

Who can be contacted from andriod to put this problem foward to them?

i have 2.2.1 XXJPX but i don't have that problem. although one thing i observed is when a downloaded application is installed and moved to the sd card, the settings will go back to the default (like adwtheme launcher) so i had to move it back to the internal memory. regarding the camera, i have no problem so far, i set the storage to an external memory (i have 32 Gb sandisk micro sd) and sounds set to off.

Hi,

I've had this problem ever since the latest version of Android for my Samsung Galaxy S. Not only does it affect the Camera, but also (and more annoyingly for me) it affects Moon+ Readers ability to bookmark pages and generally remember any settings I've changed for the ap.

Anyone know of a fix?

J

that's a bug that was introduced in 2.2.1
what happens is they save the databases in /data/data/com.packageName/databases like all android phones
preferences however are saved in /dbdata/databases/com.packageName/shared_prefs
when you delete an app , android deletes the databases but not the preferences [you can verify that if you have root explorer and you can see that they are still there]
this causes other apps to "forget" about it [this usually when you upgrade a version or the package name gets changed]

the fix I know is , uninstall the app , then go and delete the data manually then reinstall the app .. this should fix it
you can also use SD Maid https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.thedarken.sdm

requires your device to be rooted , but it'll clean your phone

as for the camera , you cannot uninstall that [in the normal way] try using SD Maid and see if cleaning the system [with the corpse finder and clean system] solved your problem , if it didn't then you probably need to reflash your firmware

Did you use Kies to back up then do a factory re-set? How do you do the re-set?

Cheers,

J

menu -> settings -> privacy -> factory data reset
or
(recommended) power off, go to recovery mode (vol up + home + power) and wipe everything from there

if you want to backup your apps, you probably need to root it first then use titanium backup

contacts gets backed up with your gmail account (if you are saving on gmail) and you can backup sms using some apps from the market

I have no idea what rooting involves. Is there a free app which will do this?
