Help Words with Friends help

I know this has nothing to do with the phone, i have a friend who jumped ship from their android phone and got a iphone 4S (i know trader right), we tried playing words with Friends but every time i put in his user name it comes back with the no user found. Is there a trick to playing words with Friends between an android and a iphone?
