The one thing the iPhone app market has over the Android Market is the reasonable amount of word games. In addition to Scrabble by Hasboro and EA, there is Words with Friends. Words with Friends allows users to play with friends and random people via email. Up until May, there were no alternatives for Android users, when WordWise Pro launched.
The game links to your google account, allowing you to choose a username to display instead of your email. You then give your email to anyone with whom you are interested in playing. You can also choose to start a game with a random person. However, you are only allowed to play a 2-player game at the moment, no word on whether that will change.
The game plays like a traditional game of Scrabble, though the board layout is slightly different. One nice feature is that if a user tries to play two invalid words in a row, they forfeit their turn. Other than that, it's pretty standard fair.
While the gameplay is what you expect, the features of WordWise Pro are lacking. There are no stats like highest score, biggest word, etc. There's no ability to easily rematch a previous opponent. It's a very bare bones experience.
WordWise Pro is a solid value at $0.99, especially if you are big fan of Scrabble. And if anyone is looking for a match, feel free to email statnut@gmail.com.
