Working phone malfunctioned [Lines on screen]

Hi,

I have a samsung phone and just a minute ago i clicked on an app.
Then suddenly my phone just malfunctioned the screen went white then had different coloured lines down the screen for a few seconds then it started showing tons of black zig zag lines,Then the screen went white again,Showed even more rainbow coloured lines and then finally turned it self off.

I do not know why this happened,It is so strange,I have not dropped my phone or anything.

I Just took the battery out of my phone then switched it back on again and now it is working perfectly.

What could be the cause of this?

What app did you click on? Was it one you've used often before?

It shouldn't be easy for a normal, non-priviledged app to f up the graphics system like that, but phones are complex systems so I'm wary of ruling anything out.

Or it could be a physical problem, that occurred then by chance or because you pressed in a particular place. Or a rare bug in the system software, triggered by a particular set of circumstances.

It's very hard to say with a one-off event. If it repeats there will be more chance of identifying the cause, but obviously I hope it just doesn't.
