Worthy Birthday Gift?

Hey guys I need your help and opinion. I want to get my gf an android phone for her bday but she's so stuck on Blackberries. I wan't her to see how much better android phones are. This is the only phone that is small enough with a keyboard that does not require 4g added cost. What are your thoughts on this phone? Will she hate the slide out keyboard? I will most likely upgrade it to 2.2 so she can take advantage of flash. Seems though after the update, I'm seeing all kinds of issue. Should I leave it on 2.1? I'll be buying the phone on craigslist so there will be no returns. Should I get this or a different one like the Samsung Transform. I hate samsungs lack of support so I really don't wanna go there unless I have to. Thanks guys...

The update is good but it is still a bad phone and I would for sure go with the transform. The phone still lags and now with the froyo update a lot of things have moved or gone away and its a little harder to navigate. If you want to make her happy for years to come then I would skip the samsung intercept and go for something a little more better.

Thank you for the informative feed back. I really appreciate it and will take your advice against the intercept and may get her the Transform or perhaps the Evo shift. Ill just cover the extra $10 a month for a yr for her and she can decide after that if she still wants to keep the Shift. Hopefully by then the $10 extra will be lifted or maybe a new non 4g phone will come out that will be better than the transform. Wish I had more time but 2 more weeks is all I have till her bday.

Just get the Optimus S. It's a kick a$$ device and no $10 4g charge.

I've come to despise Samsung Android phones. They make nice TV's, home appliances and decent computers, but they need to stay away from the flipping phones.
