WTF Experience at the Cell Phone Shop

I just want to share what happened to me this afternoon.

My classmate wanted to sell three phones for his tuition. Namely HTC Desire Z iPhone 3GS, and an Air Phone 4.

Since we are no longer buying second hand phones, I decided to help him sell it at the local cell phone market to try and sell the unit.

Here's the majority of my conversation with the 2nd hand buyers.

Translated from Tagalog/Kapampangan.

Me: Kuya, (term for older male person) I am selling 3 phones. You wanna buy.
Buyer: Ah, is this an original iPhone?
Me: Yeah, here's the receipt and the box.
long haggling of price
Buyer: Okay, okay 19,800?
Me: Deal.

He won't take any else since he will close early. So we went to another man.

Me: I have two phones for sale. *Shows phones*
Buyer2: I'll give you 8k.
Me: What about the HTC?
Buyer2: No, No. 8k for both
Me: Both? This is a brand new HTC, at least 15k.
This made me LOL
B2: I don't want 2 china phones. 8k is enough for both

After explaining, apparently he doesn't know the brand.

WTF, this is a not a corner market. This is inside a mall. How could you not know what an HTC is. I explained further. He does not know an Android phone? 0____o

We tried other shops but they don't know what an Android is -.- I wish high-end malls buy phones. There is no use with the local market.

In the end we sold the Air Phone and iPhone.

Wanna buy a HTC Desire Z?

They knew what they was. He wanted to get them at a cheaper price so his profit would be more. Classic business move . You see this a lot at pawn shops.

We have a craigslist, an ebay and our own online market. We decided to sell it to the market because in my area, phones have a higher resell rate than to sell it online.

It's not a business move since he bought the iPhone at a higher price if you went to sell it online.

It's clearly just people here don't know what an Android is. They don't even know what is a Symbianize. More on brand on phone, they don't care what powers it.

I now know the reason why the seller thinks it's a China ripoff because apparently there is a certain brand of phone knockoffs that has "HTC" on it but doesn't really know there is a real HTC brand. :/

Yes..HTC is not that popular back in my country India. And many people are not aware of android too.I think the reason being the initial android phones were comparatively costly & Nokia is having a market monopoly over other phones. I guess one out of 3 phones might be nokia. But now things are changing & other brands are also getting popular. :)

Yes, you are right. Nokia is also very popular here. Almost all people I see are using Nokia phone, yet they just don't care what OS powers it. Though it is understandable. Just as long as it is functional, there is no reason to care about it's OS.

But still their sign outside says "Professional technicians - We fix every type of cell phones!!!!" but doesn't even know a popular smart phone brand -.-

Yes I agree. If they have put up the board they should be aware of popular brands
