Help Xbox Controller for Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0

How would I be able to use an Xbox controller for my Galaxy Player 5.0?
Would I have to root my device, or are there any other options available?

I would like to use it to play emulators!

I've read that the xbox controller technology is proprietary and Microsoft will not share it. You won't be able to use it with anything other than the xbox console.

What if I used a USB controller. I know that those work on computers.
