Help. That's what I need. A lot of help.
My friend needs to get her mum on Facebook for socialization and doing genealogy for fun.
Her mum,  Marie, at 81-years old,  has poor eyesight. She had a stroke and can't use her left hand. She has a very soft voice and a difficult time hearing.
My friend and I are not tech savvy (I think that's the term). We thought the Lollipop was the newest version available until a couple weeks ago.
My friend went on eBay and bought a 'unlocked gsm android 5.1.1 3G phablet'. We did not think that the brand would be important because it was being shipped from United States to United States.
It arrives and she puts it to charge. Then, she takes out the paperwork. There is a single sheet of paper. Its written in Chinese. She turns it over and finds it blank.
She turns on the phone and discovers its in English.
She spends days trying to get this phone to work for her mum.
It won't get a signal. They live in the country. This makes the phone nearly useless. Then, it gets a signal. Who knows what changed. We give offerings of thanks to the phone gods. We are not religious people,  but there was something at work here. You could feel it.
Then, she tries to set up 'OK Google'. This seems to be another test of the phone gods. We set out offerings, send out prayers,  chant and try again.
We use another phone and consult with the phone gods cleric, Google. It wants to know which phone god they need to appease.
We search and find one word on the box. It matches the word on the back of the phone. XGody.
After several more days of prayers,  chanting, and offerings, she finds that this is a Chinese phone. We were all under the impression that all phones were made in Japan.
Armed with this information,  we consult with Google in the hope that the phone gods have blessed them with knowledge of what to do. After all,  it was Google who informed us that automation was possible.
Now we have Auto- everything but none of it works.
