Help XP laptop won't connect to s3 hotspot

kc131

Lurker
Just moved back to the states from overseas and decided to buy a smartphone that could act as a hotspot for my home Internet needs. So I got a galaxy S3.

I am able to turn the S3 hotspot on and my iPad and iPod touch both can connect and use the internet but my laptop can't even when I set the hotspot to an open connection with no WPA key. Just two days ago when I was at a friends house I could connect with my laptop to their network but I can't connect to the S3 hotspot. When I try connect to a wireless network, my computer can see the S3 hotspot, and it tries to connect, but then it just stops.

I think the issue is with the laptop but I have no idea how to fix it.

Any ideas?

If it helps the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000.
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Service pack 3

Thanks for your help!
