Y!Mail App Loading "Old" New Messages

This problem has been going on for quite a while...

I have been using the Yahoo Mail app over the stock default one that comes with most Android devices and it continuously does this. I'll get an e-mail notification for a new e-mail that I have never opened up, open up my Yahoo Mail app and then it will refresh the messages yet there are no new messages to show at the top but it clearly will say at the top "(1) New Message" or whatever it says at the top indicating a message that hasn't been read.

It has been doing this since day one with YouTube e-mails that come through but now it is happening to YouTube e-mails as well as those pesky spam e-mails that I always throw in the spam box but Yahoo never blocks...

What will happen is that I will have to scroll to the very bottom of the e-mails and there will be my "new" unread e-mail. I will have to click it as soon as I see it or else it will load the rest of my e-mails and it will get pushed down again. Once I click it, it has a date saying that it was sent on December 31st, 1969 at 4:00pm. That is on every YouTube e-mail that comes through. On my other e-mails (usually utter bullshit like "Senior Dating!!!" and "Senior Homes Available!!") and other spammy e-mails, the dates are that or some other odd date that couldn't have been sent from because the internet didn't really exist back then...

Anyway long story short...anyone know what can be done to fix this issue? It seems to be an issue only I am dealing with as Bing and Google searches have yielded no similar things happening to others...

Not sure about your specifics other than to say I (and others) ended up having so many problems with the Yahoo mail app that I went back to the stock app... particularly since you can now set it up as IMAP (maybe that happened a while ago, but I didn't know it).

Yeah, I remember about a month or two when it was having that issue where it would send notifications a million times for one e-mail. But honestly, that's about the only problem that I've had with the app beside this problem.

Can you explain to me or show me the difference between IMAP and these other formats? I've never quite understood them and would like to add my school e-mail through this cause I know it is possible but never found out how.
