Help Yahoo mail app won't clear personal data

dmitche3

Lurker
I've tried to clear my E-Mail account from the Yahoo Mail app using the application manager. First, forcing it to stop, clearing the cache, clearing the data. Yet the data remains and automatically logs me in when the app restarts.

The same hold true after I have uninstalled the Yahoo mail app!!. Also, I tried rebooting after uninstalling the app. In all cases it simply comes up with "initializing mailbox" and then pulls up my account information.

I can't have this as it is a clear security issue. I can't find out how to change the email address to some bogus email address and I'm becoming a bit worried.

Other than the "application manager" is there another method to remove the application? and Yes, I'm willing to do a factory restore if necessary to get rid of Yahoo Mail once and for all.

Do you also have an online account? Did you install Yahoo for Android or did it come in with another program. I've seen links to it in a browser.

If you have a Yahoo app on the computer, change whatever there and sync it.

If you don't, try to use your name and password on a computer, if you can log in, delete account from there.

When you first run the Yahoo app it creates a Yahoo folder in internal storage. This folder is NOT removed when you uninstall the app. You have to use a file manager to manually delete it.

E S File Explorer actually prompts you to remove 'associated files' when you have uninstalled the app, and points out that 'Data cannot be recovered from deleted files' so I'm assuming it stores your account details.

I also use Quickoffice which although it doesn't give the prompt will still facilitate deletion as should any file manager.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone.

Out of curiosity, does "Yahoo" show up under Android Settings -> Accounts & Sync?

BTW, I moved your thread to the Android Applications subforum so that hopefully other users of the app can help out. :)

A good solution also was to simply change the password for the account via another computer, thus the phone couldn't log in as it would have the old password. Good thinking Zuben El Genub!

And to answer a different post, there was no account for Yahoo mail in the account settings. Strange thing is that once I went in to look at the account settings is when the app finally removed/cleared/lost my personal information. Until I went into look at the accounts the information remained. I had done that immediately after removing it using the file folder so not 100% sure which actually solved the issue.
