It was promised that citizens of New York City would be able to pay for parking with their phones before the end of 2016. Many thought this wasn't going to happen in time, but it has just been announced that the technology has begun to roll out, and they hope to upgrade all 85,000 Muni-Meter spots by the end of summer 2017.
