You should manually update Facebook, if you use it.

Or, any other stock apps that came with your phone, that you enjoy using.

Apparently, as I understand it, the apps that came with your phone won't notify you they have updates (when/if they do) because that is handled through Market, and as far as Market knows, you've never downloaded the app (which is accurate).

So if you want updates... you have to install the app. Even if you install the same version, having downloaded it, Market will henceforth give you updates.

The new Facebook For Android is a lot more complete than the one that ships with the Acclaim. You can now manage requests/invites, notifications don't need to be refreshed, and there's some kind of image/video stream on the bottom (not a fan of that feature). The News Feed looks exactly the same, and still has the bug where it will sometimes scroll down on its own... but with update notifications, if they fix that, you'll get fixed a lot sooner.

(I used the AppBrain.com link because the Apps site here is having problems. Shouldn't matter once you hit the 2D barcode and get to the Market.)

Update: You should just use Facebook in the Browser. Looks and works better... oh, and the notifications work. In the Facebook app, the notifications just send you to Facebook in the Browser anyway, so why not start there?

Doing it is tricky, however, as the authentication (login) in the Touch app (touch.facebook.com) is broken. No two ways about it, it Just Does Not Work. Facebook probably knows this, so they may be fixing it, but it didn't work for me. The solution is to find the link to go to the regular (non-mobile) site. Double-tap the upper-right corner to zoom in on the login boxes. Log in and check "Remember me". Then browse to touch.facebook.com and you should be logged in, and it should work great.

Additional information: If you later decide that you will never use those apps (in my case, MySpace, Twidroid), you can uninstall the updates (but not the app that came in your ROM) but the update notifications do not go away. Be warned...

Also, regarding the above message, Facebook and Twitter are now solid gold on the Acclaim via TweetDeck. Best social networking app ever. I have a Twitter account but don't really know what to do with it. TweetDeck makes it relevant. It's still inferior to Facebook in every way, but it has its place.

I agree that it works better to manually update, but it lost the landscape orientation on the main page.... Boooooo
