YouMail- Free or not?

I read online that visual voicemail through Youmail was free but after downloading it and receiving a voicemail- it said that the visual voicemail was $6.99 per month/50 visual voicemails.

What am I missing? I really need a decent, FREE, visual voicemail application that does not require me to get a new Google Voice # and is EASY to use.

I swear, I must be an idiot to not be able to figure this stuff out. Google Voice completely overwhelms me, and I do not want yet another stupid number to remember......

You don't have to use the Google Voice number if all you want is the voicemail features.
On the google.com/voice webpage go to the Settings / Phones / next to your mobile phone click the link for "Activate Google voicemail on this phone" you can continue to receive calls to your original mobile number. Make sure to install the Google Voice app on your droid to receive the notification when you get a message, and set it to "do not use google voice for calls".

Works great for me, all I use it for is the voicemail.
 
Youmail does not appear to be free any longer, at least not the visual voicemail portion of it, the regular voicemail, yes.

Ok- All set up on GV- one other question though- If I get a different phone, do I just redownload the application or do I have to do anything else?
 
I swore by this app when I used It with my VZW Blaclberry. I recently got the hero from sprimt with a new number. I can't seem to download all my contacts from youmail onto this phone. Any sugestions?

I thought that you could sync it with your Google contacts.
