Youtube App not working on Nexus 7

Nexus 7 2013 edition with Marshmellow.
Youtube app shows only black screen and plays audio.
Videos play just fine in youtube if I open it in Chrome.
What's the deal?!
Anybody else run into this and have a solution?

Sounds like an update in the YouTube app is not compatible with your phone. The only fix would be on their end...

You'd think Google would ensure that their YouTube app would work on their Nexus phone. So they should fix that pronto.
