YouTube upload -- why WIFI ONLY?

Droid can only upload vids to YouTube by wifi... is that an Android thing or a limitation caused by Verizon's abilities (inabitlies?).

Not a severe problem, but I was so used to posting vids for work as the fastest way to get a QC problem resolved for co-workers across the state. I'd post a vid, they see it within minutes, and come up with a solution.

Can't do that with Droid. :(
Can't email them as the files are too large. Still have to use my little Nokia on ATT to do that.

If you take a look at 3G upload speeds then it'll become clear why you're not allowed.

Case in point; I get 0.07 mb/s up.

Yes... a 20 second video usually takes about 4 minutes to upload with my Nokia, but the point is, my 2 year old Nokia does it, and with better quality.

Droid doesn't.

I've gotten 3mbps (upload) with WinMo phone, but now choked at 2mbps on Nexus One, but still a lot faster than my home DSL internet. It just doesn't make sense why wifi only............

Hmm, I haven't tried uploading via mobile network yet, but I know that my mobile network gets better upload speed than my home internet =/ So I would prefer to upload with my phone.

Wait, so I can't upload directly to youtube from the phone? Please tell me there is a way around that. Can I at least email the video to my gmail and upload it from a PC? I REALLY hope this is bad information, I'd love to be able to upload on the fly.

That's odd. My Eris uploaded a video over 3G just fine.

This one specifically.

My voice sounds horrible and the video capture on the Eris isn't great but it does prove that you can (at least on the Eris). And it only took about 30 seconds to upload this video that was about 2 MB.

It seems that there is a 3MB limit of files to be uploaded then the phones want WiFi instead of 3G or 4G connection. It must be built into the phone. I have a Sprint Evo and it does the same thing. If you shoot a smaller video it will upload via the phone. A larger one waits for a WiFi connection. This sucks, especially if you have a 4G connection going. There should be an app or hack around this but I have not seen one. Anyone else seen a work around for this that would allow larger files to be uploaded via the phone connection?
